Whether you’re on your first date, or looking to impress the woman of your dreams, Houston has many fun places to go. From outdoor movie theaters to local farmers markets, we’ve rounded up our favorites for couples.
For a romantic movie night, consider the Rooftop Cinema Club, which boasts 360-degree sunset and skyline views. Or try the James Turrell Twilight Ephinany Skyspace, which hosts a daily LED light and projection show.
There are plenty of hidden gems around Houston, but the Secret Garden Bar is definitely one of the most magical. Located inside the Bravery Chef Hall, it’s a 2,000 square foot patio surrounded by lush floral splendor that makes you feel like you’re in a fairy tale.
If you’re looking for a new bar to visit in Houston, this place is the best choice. The drinks are amazing and the atmosphere is so cute!
It’s also a LGBT-popular restaurant and bar, with a cozy terrace that’s perfect for relaxing. The wine and cocktail menu is impressive, and they have regular events with a live DJ.
If you’re looking for something a little different on your first date, head to Rooftop Cinema Club. This unique venue is located high above the city, offering guests a breathtaking view of the Houston skyline.
It’s also a great place to watch a movie with your loved one. The deckchairs are comfortable, and you can even use wireless headphones to hear the movie better.
This outdoor theater is also a contact-free experience, so you don’t have to deal with traffic on your way to and from the movie. In fact, you can even bring your own vehicle and watch the film in the privacy of your car!
The drive-in also features community screenings on Sundays, and you can bring your pets along for the ride. Tickets are $5 per vehicle, and proceeds will go to the Houston Food Bank.
The Museum of Fine Arts is one of the most popular art museums in Houston. It features an encyclopedic collection of art that ranges from antiquity to the future.
MFAH is open year-round and offers a variety of things to do for visitors of all ages. It is also home to a renowned sculpture garden, library, movie theater, and a gift shop.
It is a great place to go on a date, especially on Thursdays when general admission is free. There is plenty of parking available as well.
The Museum of Fine Arts is not the most popular museum in Houston, but its collections are worth a visit. The best time to visit is during the week when there are fewer people and you can experience many exhibits without having to wait in long lines.
The underground Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern is a one-of-a-kind space that offers history tours, art and music events, and sound bath meditations. It's a cool and unique Houston attraction that I would highly recommend checking out.
The cistern is a former underground water reservoir, built in 1926 for the city of Houston. After decades of service, an irreparable leak prompted the cistern's decommission in 2007.
It is now open to the public and run by the nonprofit Buffalo Bayou Partnership. In addition to weekly history tours, the organization stages art installations and programming.
The latest installation, Time No Longer, fills the cistern with sound and light. A film projection of a turntable floating above the water accompanied by music was created by Berlin-based multimedia artist Anri Sala.
